Vigo for EU Passports: Certificate, Padrón, the Miño

Portuguese neighbours, cross-border jobs, pensions, children and travel: short answers for Europeans living in Vigo or working there from Portugal.

I am Portuguese and moving to Vigo for a job. What do I file?

The EX-18 for the green certificate, with your contract as proof, at a police unit of the province of Pontevedra; it gives you the NIE as well. Then the padrón at the Concello.

I live in Portugal and work in O Porriño. Must I register?

No. Registration is for people whose home is in Spain. You need only the number, requested on the EX-15 by a non-resident.

Certificado de registro UE Vigo: which office?

The current policia.es list shows EU registration (“régimen comunitario”) in Pontevedra, Tui, Marín, Vilagarcía de Arousa and Salvaterra de Miño; until early 2024 it also included C/ Álvaro Cunqueiro 6 in Vigo, which the Universidade de Vigo still names. Go where your confirmation says. Rúa Teófilo Llorente does not issue it.

I am a retired German living on a pension. What proof do I bring?

Register in the category for people who do not work: proof of sufficient means, such as pension statements, and health cover, public or private.

My children live with me. Do they need certificates of their own?

Yes. Each member of the family registers in their own name, children included, with proof of the family link.

Can I travel on the green certificate?

No. It records your residence; for travel, your passport or national ID card is the document.

Which raft are you tied to?

A few lines are enough: your nationality, where around the ría you live or will live, and what has to be ready by when. We answer by email with the route that fits.
